3rd Judicial District Nominating Commission sends names of nominees to governor

TOPEKA—The 3rd Judicial District Nominating Commission sent the names of four nominees for district judge to Gov. Laura Kelly, who has 60 days to decide who will fill the vacancy created when Chief Judge Evelyn Wilson left her position to become a Supreme Court justice.

The 3rd Judicial District is composed of Shawnee County.

Judicial district nominating commission election results for March 2020

Judicial districts whose residents have voted to adopt a nonpartisan method for selecting judges have a judicial nominating commission that accepts nominations and interviews nominees.

In the event of a district judge vacancy, the nominating commission forwards the names of finalists to the governor, who appoints a replacement.

Dodge City lawyer selected for district magistrate judge vacancy in Finney County

TOPEKA—The 25th Judicial District Nominating Commission has selected Timothy R. Woods, a Dodge City lawyer, to fill a magistrate judge vacancy in Finney County.
