Citing opinions

When citing a published opinion, Supreme Court Rule 6.08 requires you to use the official citation followed by any generally recognized reporter system citation. Under Supreme Court Rule 7.04, you should not cite an unpublished opinion unless it has persuasive value and would help the court.

Changes to opinions

Not all opinions posted online are final opinions.

After the court files an opinion, a party may request rehearing, modification, or further review, or the court may otherwise determine a change is needed.

Also, the Reporter of Decisions completes a final edit of all published opinions before they are printed in the Kansas Reports or Kansas Court of Appeals Reports.
