District Judge Mark BraunTOPEKA—District Judge Mark Braun will retire July 12 after serving 13 years in the 3rd Judicial District.

Braun became a judge in 2006 and serves in Division 15 of the 3rd Judicial District, which is composed of Shawnee County.

“I am proud and honored to have served the people of Kansas for the last 33 years. I have appreciated working with good, earnest, hardworking public employees at all levels throughout this state,” he said.

Braun graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 1986. He worked 20 years as a lawyer in public service: as an assistant county attorney in Reno County; an assistant attorney general in the consumer protection and litigation divisions under Attorneys General Robert Stephan and Carla Stovall; an attorney for Kansas Securities Commissioner Chris Biggs; and as director of the Kansas Department of Administration’s Office of Administrative Hearings.

Braun also was an adjunct professor in Washburn's criminal justice and legal studies program for 25 years. He served three terms on the Topeka Public Schools board of education.

Braun graduated from Lawrence High School in 1973, and he attended the University of Kansas. After working in business, Braun graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1983.

He and his wife, Meg, have been married 39 years; she is a retired teacher and school psychologist. Their son Benet and his wife, Ashley, live in California.

In retirement, Braun plans to reengage in community involvement and to travel and focus on his interest in photography.
