TOPEKA — The 3rd Judicial District Nominating Commission has sent the governor the name of Mary E. Christopher as a candidate to fill the position made vacant by the retirement of Shawnee County District Judge Frank Yeoman Jr.

Steven M. Roth and Kelly J. Trussell are also candidates for the position.

Christopher replaces Lee Davidson, who had been nominated along with Roth and Trussell on September 25. Davidson died November 8.

By statute, if a judicial nominee dies before the governor fills the judicial vacancy, the commission must nominate a replacement. The governor has until January 15, 2018, to make the appointment.

The 3rd Judicial District Nominating Commission consists of Justice Marla J. Luckert of the Kansas Supreme Court as the nonvoting chair; Terry E. Beck, Daniel W. Crow, Thomas G. Lemon, Jolene C. Miller, and W. Eric Stafford, all of Topeka; and Toby L. McCullough of Rossville.
