District Magistrate Judge Michael FarleyTOPEKA—Johnson County District Magistrate Judge Michael H. Farley will retire May 12, after 18 years on the bench.

"It has been both a privilege and an honor to serve the people of Johnson County," Farley said.

Farley was appointed district magistrate judge in the 10th judicial district in 1999. He served as a municipal judge in Leawood for 10 years and served as small claims judge in Johnson County for 20 years.

Farley holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Kansas, and a juris doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law. He has been a member of the Johnson County Bar Association and National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. He served as an air intelligence officer on active duty in the Navy and completed 30 years' service in the Navy Reserve and retired with the rank of captain.

Farley's retirement plans include travel, photography, and volunteer service.
