TOPEKA—The 10th Judicial District Nominating Commission is seeking nominees to fill a district magistrate judge vacancy in Johnson County created by the March 2017 retirement of Judge Linda S. Trigg.

A district magistrate judge must be a graduate of a high school or secondary school or the equivalent; be a resident of Johnson County at the time of taking the oath of office and maintain Johnson County residency while holding such office; and either be a lawyer admitted to practice law in Kansas or pass a certification examination given by the Supreme Court within 18 months, as provided by K.S.A. 20-334(b) and K.S.A. 20-337.

The commission welcomes nominations to fill the position, but such nominations must be accompanied by an application form, completed and signed by the nominee. Application forms are available from the clerk’s office in the Johnson County District Court, the clerk of the appellate courts’ office at the Judicial Center in Topeka, or online at www.kscourts.org.

Completed application forms, with supporting documentation and an authorization of release, must be received in the Office of the District Attorney, 5th Floor, Johnson County Courthouse, 100 N Kansas, Olathe, KS 66061, by noon Wednesday, February 1, 2017.

The nominating commission will convene February 22, 2017, to review the applications, and on March 8, 2017, to conduct interviews and select the judge. Commission meetings are open to the public.

The 10th Judicial District Nominating Commission consists of Justice Lee A. Johnson as the nonvoting chair; lawyer members Stephen M. Howe (commission secretary), Judge Kevin P. Moriarity, J. Brett Milbourn, John M. Parisi, Greg L. Musil, Thomas J. Bath, and Rick G. Gunn; and nonlawyer members Anna Beth Surbaugh, Gregory M. Doring, Vivien Jennings, Doug D. Brownlee, James A. C. Griffith, Joe W. Beveridge, and Samuel H. Turner Jr.
