Honorable Kim R. Schroeder

Kim R. Schroeder was born in July 1957 in Winfield, Kansas. He received an associate of arts degree from Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas in 1977, a bachelor of arts from Washburn University in 1979, and a juris doctorate from the Washburn University School of Law in 1982.

Upon admission to the practice of law in 1982, he joined the Hugoton law firm of Brollier & Wolf, where he became a partner in 1984. His practice was a general office practice, living in a small community doing civil litigation, juvenile & criminal law, domestic and probate.

In November 1998, he was elected to serve as Judge of the 26th Judicial District Court, covering six counties Stevens, Seward, Morton, Stanton, Grant, and Haskell in southwestern Kansas. Judge Schroeder was subsequently re-elected by the voters of the 26th Judicial District in 2002, 2006, and 2010. As a trial court judge, he handled a variety of cases including civil, criminal, domestic, probate and juvenile.

On January 11, 2013, Governor Sam Brownback appointed him to serve on the Kansas Court of Appeals.

Judge Schroeder, prior to his election to the district court, served on the school board for USD 210 in Hugoton for 5 years and was president of the school board for 3 years. Over the years, Judge Schroeder has been active in numerous professional, civic and community activities. He was instrumental in rejuvenating the Southwest Kansas Bar Association in 1992 and has continued to serve on the Board of Directors as a board member and as its treasurer. He was awarded the Southwest Kansas Bar Association Distinguished Service Award in 2011.

Judge Schroder and his wife, Karolyn, have been married for more than 35 years. They have two adult children, a son who passed away in 2007, and a daughter who is a registered nurse in Shawnee, where she resides with her family.
