Honorable Henry W. Green Jr.
Judge of the Court of Appeals 1993-

Henry W. Green Jr. was born in Leavenworth on January 15, 1949. He received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University with dual majors in History and Political Science in 1972. He is a 1975 graduate of the University of Kansas Law School where he served as vice president of the third-year class and as a research assistant. He engaged in the general practice of law between 1975 and 1993 and also as a part-time instructor at the National College of Business in Shawnee Mission. From 1979 until his appointment to the court, he served as a member of the United States Panel of Bankruptcy Trustees for the District of Kansas.

Active in the local, state and American bar associations, Judge Green is a former president of the Leavenworth County Bar Association. and formerly served on the membership committee of the Kansas Bar Association. He is a lecturer and co-author of Successful Creditors' Strategies in Bankruptcy in Kansas. He also serves as pro bono counsel for the Buffalo Soldier Monument Committee, which raised more than $l million for the erection of the Buffalo Soldier Monument. This bronze statue was dedicated by General Colin Powell at Fort Leavenworth on July 25, 1992, in recognition of the first All-Black Cavalry Units commissioned after the American Civil War. Judge Green is currently a member of the Kansas Board for the Discipline of Attorneys, a position he has held since 1992.

Judge Green and his wife, Shirley, have two children, Monica and Malcolm.
