Honorable Michael B. Buser
Judge of the Court of Appeals 2005 -

Michael B. Buser was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 10, 1952. He attended Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park. In 1974, he graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology and American government. He was awarded the Brennan medal as the graduating senior who demonstrated the highest proficiency in theology.

Judge Buser graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1977 with a Juris Doctor degree. During law school, he was a member and managing editor of the Kansas Law Review. He is the author of a book on revelation published by the Georgetown University Press, and legal articles published in the Stanford Law Review and the Kansas Law Review.

From 1977 until 1988, Judge Buser was an assistant district attorney in Johnson County. He was a general attorney for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1988 until 1991. He joined the Shook, Hardy and Bacon law firm in 1991 where he practiced civil litigation in the firm's tort and pharmaceutical practice groups. In January 2005, Governor Kathleen Sebelius appointed him to the Kansas Court of Appeals.

Judge Buser is a longstanding member of the Kansas Bar Association and Johnson County Bar Association. He has served as president of the Stop Violence Coalition, legal coordinator and instructor at the Johnson County Police Academy, chairman of the Jefferson Meeting on the Constitution sponsored by the Johnson County Bicentennial Commission, and member of the Georgetown University Alumni Admissions Committee.

Judge Buser and his wife, Holly, have two sons, Mark and Andrew.
