MARRIAGE LICENSE INFORMATION

INSTRUCTIONS FOR OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE

Either person may make application for the marriage license. There is a THREE (3) day waiting period, after application is made, before you may pick up the license. For Example:

Application made on Monday: the license may be picked up on the following Thursday or any work day thereafter.

Application made on Tuesday: the license may be picked up on the following Friday or any work day thereafter.

Application made on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday: the license my be picked up on the following Monday or any work day thereafter.

Either person may pick up the license. Office hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

THE LICENSE WILL EXPIRE SIX (6) MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF ISSUANCE

A worksheet is issued when the application is made. The social security number, driver’s license number or ID number of applicants shall be requested on the application per K.S.A. 74-148. ALL information must be completed and returned when picking up the license. THE WORKSHEET MUST BE SIGNED BY BOTH PARTIES.

THE FEE FOR THE LICENSE IS $85.50 CASH ONLY. NO CHECKS!

After the marriage ceremony, the ORIGINAL LICENSE is returned to the Court for recording. You may obtain a certified copy of your marriage license through the Clerk’s office in which it was returned to. The cost for certified copies is $1.25 per copy. You may also obtain a copy of your marriage license through the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Topeka, Kansas.

NOTE: No clerk shall issue a marriage license to a minor without consent of a parent or guardian of the minor without consent of a parent or guardian of the minor and the judge, or the consent of both parents and any legal guardian, or all living parents and any legal guardian. K.S.A. 23-106

If you wish to be married by a Judge, you may make an appointment with their office. Phone numbers are available through this web site. Fees for marriage ceremonies will be set by each individual Judge.
