Certified Court Reporters Examination Information

All examinations are given at the Maner Conference Center located at the Kansas ExpoCentre facilities (17th and Topeka Boulevard) in Topeka, Kansas.

The examination consists of the following:

  • A written knowledge test given at 8:30am - Passing score is 70% or better
  • A dictated examination given after the written exam at the following speeds:
    • 180 wpm medical testimony, two-voice, five minutes
    • 200 wpm solid matter, one-voice, five minutes
    • 225 wpm ordinary testimony, two-voice, five minutes
    • Passing accuracy rate is 95% or better for all three portions.

    Test results will NOT be available the day of the examination. You will be notified within 7-10 days in writing at the address you provide to the Clerk of the Appellate Courts office.   • Once an individual has successfully completing the written knowledge examination and all three dictated portions, a written procedures examination will be given later by mail. This MUST be satisfactorily completed before the Board can recommend an individual to the Supreme Court for certification in the State of Kansas.
