Supreme Court Law Library

COLLECTION:  The Kansas Supreme Court Law Library is home to over 185,000 volumes and 600 periodical titles. Includes statutory and case law for all 50 states; treatises on various legal subjects; some federal documents; briefs of Kansas appellate level cases. Special collections of court and court-related materials are also available from the library. Libary Hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday except Holidays.

Anyone is welcome to access materials on the premise. Materials are generally circulated for a period of three weeks, with some exceptions, to members of the bench, the bar, and to employees of the State of Kansas. Copying charges are assessed at the rate of 15 cents per page. Faxing is also available at the rate of 50 cents per page.

The Supreme Court Law Library participates with other Topeka libraries (Washburn University Mabee and Law libraries, Kansas State Library, Kansas Historical Society Library) in a combined catalog database to provide access to available materials. Search all materials through the ATLAS (Associated Topeka Libraries Automated System).

INTERLIBRARY LOAN: The Law Library actively participates with libraries nationwide for the sharing of resources.

PATRON SERVICES: The reference staff is available to assist with basic reference requests. However, the library staff is not authorized to perform legal research or explain/interpret statutes or cases or to dispense legal advice in any way. At the present time, access to Westlaw on a public computer is available free of charge. Time limits may be necessary to accommodate the demand for use of the computer.

This library is a U.S. Federal Depository Library. Federal publications and other information products are made available for free public use in Federal depository libraries throughout the United States. In addition to the publications, trained librarians are available to assist in their use.
