KANSAS JUDICIAL COUNCIL BULLETINS

The Kansas Judicial Council Bulletin was first published in 1932 (from 1927 to 1931 hardbound Annual Reports were published). The Bulletin was initially a quarterly publication which reported on Judicial Council work, caseload statistics, court days and included articles of interest and, occasionally, forms. Traditionally, the president of the Kansas Bar Association wrote an annual article for the Bulletin and his or her picture was placed on the cover of that particular Bulletin. The last Bulletin was published in 1984.

The Bulletin was important because it was the only publication that reached every Kansas lawyer. While Kansas Bar Association publications reached those lawyers who were members of the K.B.A., only the Bulletin was distributed free of charge to all Kansas lawyers. The Bulletin was distributed without charge because it was considered a part of the Judicial Council's mission to improve the administration of justice

During the fifty-plus years that the Bulletin was published, it contained numerous articles helpful to practicing lawyers. Because a number of those articles may still be of interest to the bench and bar, the Kansas Judicial Council staff is in the process of indexing past Bulletins. The index will eventually be posted on the Judicial Council webpage. To the extent that copies of the Bulletins are available, lawyers and judges may request copies of the Bulletins or copies of specific articles from the Bulletins.
