Appeal No. 95,760: State v. Billy L. Scott

The Court, in a unanimous decision authored by Justice Carol A. Beier, reverses the defendant's Reno County conviction of involuntary manslaughter after determining as a matter of law that the evidence presented did not prove Scott caused the death of a bar patron by serving her a highly intoxicating alcoholic beverage.

Appeal No. 92,544: State v. Akira T. Brown

The Court, in a unanimous decision authored by Justice Marla J. Luckert, affirms the defendant's first-degree murder conviction arising from a Wichita gang-related shooting.

Docket No. 98,103: In Re: Irwin S. Trester

The Court indefinitely suspends the law license of a California attorney, who is registered to practice in Kansas, but not in California, based on his California no contest pleas to three charges of theft and one charge of unauthorized practice of law.
