The following are among decisions filed by the Supreme Court today:

Appeal No. 80,991: State v. Ricardo Gomez Murrilo

The court in a unanimous decision authored by Justice Bob Abbott, affirms the defendant's Lyon County convictions of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnaping, three counts of aggravated assault, and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling, for which he received the hard 40 prison sentence. The convictions arose from the April 1997 murder of Delfino Moya and a residential shooting and assault at Moya's brother's residence. Justice Donald L. Allegrucci concurs in the result.

Appeal No. 81,642: State v. Derek L. Bedford

The court, in a unanimous decision authored by Justice Donald L. Allegrucci, affirms the defendant's Wyandotte County convictions of first-degree murder, which arose from the discovery on July 8, 19996, of the bod of Lisa Bradish, which was found in a truck yard in an industrial area of Kansas City. She had been beaten, strangled, and crushed by having been driven over by a car.

Appeal No. 81,943: State v. Jenkins

The court, in a unanimous decision authored by Justice Tyler C. Lockett, orders a new trial in a Wyandotte County second-degree murder case based on a juror's failure to answer questions during voir dire accurately.

Appeal No. 82,174: State v. Victor R. Mitchell Jr.

The court, in a unanimous decision authored by Justice Bob Abbott, affirms the defendant's Sedgwick County convictions of two counts of second-degree murder, which arose from the shooting deaths of Randy and Jeff Hobaugh near Mitchell's Wichita residence.

Docket No. 83,887: In Re: Kent A. Roth

The court orders published censure of an Ellinwood attorney based upon his handling of an estate that resulted in violations of the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct.

Docket No. 84,677: In Re: Boyd W. Howard II

The court orders a two-year probationary period for a Wichita attorney based upon his handling of an estate.

Appeal No. 81,748: State v. Keyon Hadley

The court unanimously affirms Hadley's second-degree murder conviction, which arose from the October 1997 death of Brian Durnil, who was shot during a target practicing outing in rural Montgomery County.
